What foods help us get better sleep?

Interesting question.  I think we know more about those foods that keep us from sleeping like caffeine but what foods can we add to our diet that will enhance sleep.

Well, there are many foods, actually that can promote sleep and they’re listed below.

  • Walnuts

    • contain their own form of melatonin

  • Cheese & crackers

  • Lettuce

    • contains lactucarium which acts as a sedative and affects the brain similar to opium

    • try brewing a few leaves and adding mint to the juice to really help with sleep

  • Cherry juice

    • naturally boost melatonin

  • Chamomile tea

    • increase glycine and acts like a sedative

  • Tuna

    • high in B6 which is necessary to produce serotonin and melatonin

  • Passion fruit tea

    • contains Harman’s alkaloid which acts to relax the brain

  • Kale

    • contains high levels of calcium which helps the body produce tryptophan which is used to make melatonin

  • Shrimp & lobster

    • also high in tryptophan for melatonin production

Before you reach for a prescribed or over the counter medication to improve your sleep try making changes to your diet to include some or all of the items above.
