I’m a dietitian, fitness expert, and professor of nutrition. I was drawn to public health and nutrition as a result of my diverse background in science, fine arts, and fitness. I was a classical ballet dancer for fourteen years, trained internationally and danced with Pacific Northwest Ballet in Seattle, WA as well as the University Of Arizona School Of Dance in Tucson, AZ. In conjunction with my ballet training, I chose to double-major in nutritional sciences, and thus discovered my aptitude for science and research.
When I graduated Summa Cum Laude from the University of Arizona with a B.S. in nutritional sciences, a B.F.A. in dance, and a minor in chemistry, I was captivated by public health and nutritional sciences and further achieved a Master of Public Health (MPH) degree from UCLA followed by a DrPH from Loma Linda University.
I have a lifelong passion for fitness and prevention motivated me to become a certified personal fitness trainer in 2008, as well as a certified yoga instructor. I became a registered dietitian in 2016. I currently manage Nasira’s Nutrition Kitchen, a unique dietetics practice complete with a line of healthy granolas and baked goods.
It is my goal to help further educate people regarding the relationship between diet and exercise, and improved physical performance and quality of life. I enjoy working with individuals of different age, gender and skill level, as it challenges me to consider and entertain varying physical and dietary demands within our diverse population. Since no client is the same, there are many different aspects that need to be considered to achieve optimal health for each unique person. As a nutrition expert, I will assess and evaluate your individual needs. Improved overall health, diet, and fitness will be our primary goals.
